Welp, I’m just a bringer of bad news when it comes to my own writing. It’s not really happening. But don’t fear too much, volume 3 of the handyman series is about half written, it’s just that progress isn’t being made to get it done. At the moment, I’m working on recording and editing the audiobook of Misty Lake. Because the book is at least twice as long as my individual handyman books, it’s obviously taking me a considerable amount of time, plus I’m still working during the day. I’ve recorded 8-9 hours so far. By comparison, A Handyman Can’t Fix The Wasteland Vol. 1 is just over 5 hours. My goal is to be finished recording by June, and hopefully turning in a finished product by July.
On top of that, I’m really pushing to create a nonprofit to build affordable, non-market housing. This is really important to me personally, and I spend a considerable amount of time learning and preparing myself to develop housing. Am I taking the most efficient path toward that goal? Not really, but it’s still a forward path. The goal is to create housing cooperatives in the form of cottage-clusters, or the like. It’s certainly not limited to that, but using the cooperative model in a small cluster of homes has a lot of benefits to build and maintain a solid community.
Think you can’t afford a home in this absolutely terrible housing market? Well, start to do research on alternatives, like joining or starting a housing coop that is non-market. By coming together and living smaller, and a bit closer together, we can make life more affordable for ourselves, and relieve the financial burden weighing on so many of us. We just need the people willing to put in the time to create the stable communities that we need. So go be that person!
I find this goal to be vital for my own future, so it takes precedence over basically every other goal I might have. And I make no money on my writing (I spend more money on it, so it’s categorized as a hobby at this point), so it gets put on hold first…. If that bums you out: sorry. But I’m glad I have a fan to disappoint. Hopefully I can get back to writing more consistently in a few… *pause for dramatic effect*… months.
