Well, I was trying to finish the audiobook by today, but that’s not going to happen. I received some feedback from one of my beta listeners, and there are quite a few times where the dialogue between two different characters sound too similar. So, I’m going through and flagging those moments, then rerecorded some of the lines. I’ll be out of town for a week or more, and won’t be able to record, which pushes the finished date closer to April. Other than that though, I’m very happy with how it is sounding.
On top of those fixes, I already re-record over half the book to capture the performance I was shooting for. One chapter had to be recorded three times. The first time I just sounded boring. The second time, I recorded in the morning, and my voice sounded deeper than normal (which I found very noticeable). The third time was just right. But usually I rerecord when I sound dull because I’m generally a fairly soft spoken person. I can’t let that seep into the recording though. It does not make for a good performance.
On the ebook front, things are moving slow. I’ve realized how terrible a plan I had for launch, which means I’m going to have to get creative to build an audience. I am running some ads to try to gain attention, but I think the fact that the book has NO reviews really hinders whether people think it could be worth their time. And since the book is on Kindle Unlimited, I can’t give the book out for free to anyone to hopefully review. I’d be breaking the contract with Amazon if I did that. I should have done this before publishing. But, I guess there is always next time.
I’m hoping to enact a similar plan with the audiobook to build an audience and reviews before it is purchasable. I just need to figure out how I’m going to do that…I have some ideas.
